The Process
Adapted from the digital storytelling process, we start by gathering, being vulnerable, and telling each other our stories.
Then together, community members decide what story they want to tell, to whom, and how.
We all take photos & students put the stories into draft scripts.
Community members storyboard their story, with photos and narrative drafts. This involves numerous iterative edits until the story is theirs, as they want to tell it.
Community members record their story and students weave all the media together into one short video.
The Collaborations
These short videos take months to create. Community members, community health workers, and community leaders, together with students and professors from anthropology, theater, and psychology at Miami University all bring their creativity, passion, and talents to make these videos possible. The credits have everyone's names. While created by people living in Butler County, Ohio, the stories speak of broader truths, of systemic inequities and pervasive resilience.
